BDSM – What it is
Many people, the world over, enjoy a slightly different lifestyle from what is typically viewed as ‘normal’. These people engage in a form of sexual activity that is commonly referred to as BDSM.
BDSM is a compounded acronym for several phrases – Bondage and Discipline, Domination and Submission, and Sadism and Masochism, and it is practiced by a large section of society, in many different forms.
There are, in different parts of the world, quite a few BDSM related parties or conventions that take place every year, particularly in many major cities across North America.
Certain portions of the BDSM lifestyle can be traced as far back in history as the writings of the Kama Sutra, the religious rituals of ancient Sparta, and even the works of several Roman poets in the first and second century AD. In fact, in various times, in different parts of the world, this alternative sexual lifestyle was far more common than it is today!
BDSM in the Privacy of Your Own Home
In modern times, however, many people who engage in this lifestyle prefer to do so behind closed doors, whether in an attempt to keep their activities hidden from friends, family, and co-workers, or just to maintain a certain enjoyable privacy with their choice of partners. In these situations, those who engage in the BDSM ’subculture’ often do so in the privacy of their own homes, in a specific room of their house, which is often referred to as a ‘dungeon’ or "BDSM Room".
